Our Story

COLORFUL PEOPLE: A CZECH-SLOVAK MULTIGENRE BAND WITH GLOBAL PRESENCE

Colorful People is a Czech-Slovak multigenre band with an impressive musical journey. The band formed in 2014, after studies at Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague, Czech Republic, and Raphael Rabello Music Institute in Brasília, Brazil. The trio comprises Czech singer, songwriter, bass player and percussionist Lenka Novotná, Slovak multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and producer Juraj Holoda, and Slovak singer, songwriter and percussionist Dušan Marko.

Worldwide Tours and Diverse Perfomances

Since their inception, Colorful People has embarked on extensive worldwide tours, captivating audiences in Brazil, Perú, the USA, Canada, India, Armenia, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and their beloved Czech Republic and Slovakia. Their performances are known for keeping audiences emotionally engaged, offering authentic and thrilling experiences spanning a wide spectrum of musical genres.

 

Collaborations with Jazz and Soul Stars

Colorful People has shared the stage with jazz and soul luminaries, including the exceptional singer and drummer Jamison Ross (USA), the phenomenal double bass player and composer Avishai Cohen (Israel), and they were a part of a memorable show featuring guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel (AUS) at their home club Doupě in Prague.

 

Festival Highlights

The band’s presence has graced numerous local and international festivals, from the FiftyLab festival in Brussels to the Night of Museums in Berlin, as well as czech festivals such as the United Islands of Prague, Krásný Ztráty live, Metronome Prague, and the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, International Music Festival Český Krumlov, World Music Festival in Hradec Králové, Brasil Fest Brno, Soundtrack Festival Poděbrady, among others.

 

Awards and Special Performances

Their musical journey includes being finalists in the 2014 Slovak jazz competition, Jazz Start Up. In 2016, they collaborated with students and alumni from the Berklee College of Music during a concert featuring Czech rockstar Petr Janda in the Red Room, Boston, USA.

 

Orchestral Collaboration and Broadway Star

In 2018, they showcased their versatility by performing their original music alongside famous bossa-novas by Antonio Carlos Jobim, accompanied by the South Czech Filharmonic in Metropol, České Budějovice. In 2019, Colorful People appeared on stage with Broadway star and America’s Got Talent finalist Moya Angela Campbell (USA) during a unique concert on the main square in Bratislava, Slovakia.

 

Other Collabs

Their international collaborations extended to December 2019 when they performed alongside the Slovak choir Piarissimo in New York and Boston, USA.

 

Musical Milestones and Albums

In June 2021, they unveiled their debut album (EP) “Reflections vol.1” a reflection of their musical journey and inspiration, blending pop and soul with world music.

The band’s commitment to innovation shines through in their latest release (2023) “16/16/16” an acoustic album featuring their unique arrangements of worldwide hits by artists such as Sting, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Lionel Richie, Joss Stone, John Mayer, Leonard Cohen, Lianne La Havas, and more.
